Bring A Chair And Sandwich To The Wedding If You're Not Going To RSVP

We’ve seen our fair share of wild wedding demands. A bride asking her pregnant bridesmaid for £30,000 compensation for ‘upstaging her’, a groom who ejected a child guest for not sitting in his assigned seat, even a bridesmaid hunger games where women were forced to compete for a role in the bridal party. Most of them, evidently, are pretty ridiculous and an absolute wedding no-no. But one demand revealed on Reddit this week, we can’t help respect.

According to one Reddit user, a couple in the US sent out invitations to their wedding that told guests ‘if you do not RSVP by September 10th please bring a chair and a sandwich.’ And while most posts about couplezillas (yes, we’re making that a thing) on Reddit are typically subject to intense ridicule, this one received a ton of support.

And we can see why. Let’s be honest, we can all imagine just how infuriating it must be to plan an entire wedding only to have people turn up last minute that never even acknowledged you were getting married. Especially, given that most couples make seating arrangements, pay for catering per head and often awkwardly ask one wedding party member to spend their precious getting drunk time ensuring everyone finds their seat.

So this new approach to RSVPs might just be genius. Can’t find two minutes of your day to tick yes and post an envelope back? Perhaps being forced to sit on your own camping chair and eat homemade tuna sandwiches while everyone has a three-course meal is your punishment. It honestly beats the hostile eye-roll and awkward digs all night, no?

While the line is hilariously passive aggressive, we can’t help but think it an iconic wedding invite move – in fact, we’ll be jotting it down in our notes for all future events…
