In fact, it's got us thinking about whether her on-screen alter-ego might have been on the moodboard. The checkered and corseted dress, which swells out to form a full-skirted silhouette, is by Christopher John Rogers, the man who's dressed everyone from Jodie Turner-Smith, Laverne Cox, Michaela Coel, Lady Gaga and Vice President Kamala Harris. And its silhouette, in-then-out, reminds us of a certain someone's wedding dress from the first movie.

But the similarities only start there. Because who else remembers what she wore on her head to her wedding? A giant blue-green feather tucked into one side of her up 'do. SJP, of course, usually wears an elaborate hat to the Met Gala - something of a tradition for the actor - and this year's doesn't disappoint with its feathery pink rosette and black-and-white embellishments by Philip Treacy, making the whole look bear more than a passing resemblance to her wedding outfit.

According to the designer, however, there was an ever better backstory to the look. Posting on Instagram, Rogers explained that Parker's look was inspired by 'an 1860’s ensemble by Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley — a prominent designer, seamstress, author, philanthropist and social activist active during the Gilded Age'. A former slave, Hobbs Keckley was the first Black female designer in the White House, going on to become the official dressmaker for First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln.

What can we say, SJP + CJR = a match made in heaven.
